Christian Friedrich Markus
Christian Friedrich Markus attended the Science Management course in 2026. In this interview, he talks about his experiences.
“This course enables me to view topics from my day-to-day work from a broader perspective and put them into context more effectively. For me, the immediate practical application of the course content and the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues from different areas of higher education are particularly valuable.”
Interview
In my role as a research referent at MUC.HEALTH, I am currently experiencing first-hand how an interdisciplinary school develops and what issues arise in the process. I wanted to gain a better understanding of how such processes work within a university and how I can play an active part in shaping them in my role. I found this course to be very well-suited to this purpose.
For me, the greatest benefit is being able to view many aspects of my day-to-day work from a more meta-level perspective. By understanding the historical, legal and structural contexts, I have a better grasp of why certain developments and decision-making processes at universities are structured the way they are, which in turn enables me to navigate these structures with greater confidence. I also find the exchange of ideas with colleagues from a wide variety of areas within the university particularly helpful.
Because the course is very closely aligned with the issues one actually encounters in science management. Much of it can be directly linked to one’s own work. Particularly when one is increasingly taking on coordinating or strategic roles, it is very helpful to have not only practical experience but also a sound theoretical background.
I found it particularly fascinating to realise just how much science management is actually already part of my day-to-day work. The course has helped me to be more aware of my role at the interface between specialist work, projects and university structures, and to understand many processes better.
I am particularly interested in how I can apply the course content even more effectively to the further development of MUC.HEALTH. Our interdisciplinary school is still relatively new, and much of it is currently being established and developed. That is precisely why I find it fascinating to continually link the course content to the specific issues and processes in my own working environment.
