What does PRIM stand for?

The Doctoral Research Center Integrated Mobility (PRIM) brings together research across a broad spectrum, ranging from road vehicles and aerospace to general mobility research. It addresses the key challenges of our time in the field of mobility, which stem from the need for reliable, safe, affordable and comfortable travel, the resource-efficient use of energy, and a responsible approach to the environment.

What kind of research is carried out at PRIM?

At PRIM, the entire process is examined, from mobility needs right through to their technical implementation. The focus is on the interface through which people access mobility, on mechanics and propulsion technology, guidance and automation, and on the structures and construction methods of mobility systems. The insights gained are applicable to all forms of mobility – from road transport to aerospace.

What does the PRIM offer its doctoral candidates?

At PRIM, doctoral candidates can obtain a Dr.-Ing. degree. The Doctoral Research Center offers in-depth guidance and supervision, integration into an inspiring research environment, personalised support, and an accompanying doctoral programme comprising subject-specific and interdisciplinary courses.

What infrastructure does PRIM use?

The mobility research cluster at HM has access to a particularly extensive infrastructure. This includes the laboratories of the Institute for Mobility and Life in Motion (IMM), the affiliated institute MdynamiX, the Joint Laboratory for Aerodynamics, Aeroacoustics & Fluid Engineering, the Joint Laboratory for Vehicle Engineering, Dynamics and Acoustics, the Joint Laboratory for Automation and Dynamics, and the Aerospace Flight Test Centre (AFTC), a joint venture between TUM

Doctoral centres celebrate academic milestone (Press Release 32/25)

The Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences (UASs) and Technical Universities (THs) celebrated their doctoral centres at a ceremony in Ingolstadt. With the newly approved “Doctoral Research Center Integrated Mobility” (PRIM), Hochschule München is expanding its doctoral programme to cover eight areas of specialisation. The official written notice from the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts dated 21 July 2025 marks a further milestone for Applied Research at HM.

Hochschule München has received approval from the Bavarian Ministry of Science for the Doctoral Research Center Integrated Mobility (PIM). This will enable doctoral candidates to obtain the Dr.-Ing. degree directly at HM in future – even without a partnership with a university.

Hochschule München granted the right to award doctorates in Integrated Mobility (Press Release 22/25)

Munich, 21 July 2025 – Hochschule München (HM) will in future offer the opportunity to pursue a doctorate in a further field of research: the Bavarian Ministry of Science has approved the establishment of the Doctoral Research Center Integrated Mobility (PRIM). This marks another important step for HM towards academic autonomy and the promotion of early-career researchers.
