Features

  • Determines the regulations to be issued by the university, unless otherwise specified.
  • Decides on matters of fundamental importance to research, the support of early career researchers and artists, and the fulfilment of the university’s commitment to gender equality.
  • It determines the main areas of research and decides on applications to establish Collaborative Research Centres and Research Training Groups, as well as related institutions.
  • Decides on proposals for the establishment, modification and discontinuation of degree programmes.
  • Comments on the recommendations made by appeals committees and any dissenting opinions.
  • Decides on proposals for the appointment of honorary professors on the basis of the Faculty Council’s decision.
  • Decides on the conferral of the title of Honorary Senator, Honorary Citizen or Honorary Member of the University.
  • Performs the duties of the Faculty Council where the university is not organised into departments.
  • Decides on the approval of the proposals for the appointment of non-academic members of the University Council.
  • It shall participate in other matters to the extent provided for by or pursuant to law.
  • The senate may establish advisory committees. In these committees, the groups referred to in Article 19(2), first sentence, shall be represented in accordance with the proportional representation applicable to the senate and shall be involved in the appointment of committee members; the university’s Women’s Representative shall be a member of these committees.
