Applications for bachelor's degree programmes
Here you will find all the key information on submitting an application with a foreign qualification for bachelor's degree programmes at Hochschule München.

Winter semester: 2 May – 15 July
Exception: Design: by 15 June (portfolio for Design by 31 May)
Architecture: 15 June (including portfolio)
Summer semester: 15 November – 15 January for all degree programmes on offer
All documents must be received by the Hochschule München by this deadline. The preliminary assessment by http://www.uni-assist.de/ or the APS (ONLY for applications from China, India and Vietnam) must take place earlier.

Most bachelor's degree programmes are taught in German. Applicants must have a command of German at B2 level.
The following bachelor's degree programmes have English as the teaching language:

Please make a start well in advance!
Obtaining certified copies and translations of your certificates, or preparing for the German language exam, may take some time.
You should also allow at least 6–8 weeks for uni assist to issue the VPD pre check documentation.
The VPD pre check documentation will be made available for you to download on the uni-assist portal.
We ask for your understanding that we can only accept applications that have been submitted in full within the application deadline.
If you did not obtain your qualifications (school certificates, diplomas) in Germany, you must have them assessed by the APS (ONLY applicants from China, India and Vietnam) and uni-assist http://www.uni-assist.de/ (applicants from other countries), not by Hochschule München.
Uni-assist fulfils two roles:
- Check whether you can study directly at a German university or whether you need to attend a Studienkolleg first. You can also find some initial information on this in the ‘Hochschulzugang’ database.
- Conversion of the average mark on your school reports into a German mark.
If you have already successfully completed a state-run preparatory course(Studienkolleg), you can submit your application directly to Hochschule München using your FSP certificate. You donot need a VPD pre check documentation from uni-assist in this case.
1) Register with uni-assist. Please select the option ‘Bachelor’s Degree – All Subjects’ and do not specify a particular degree programme.
2) A scanned copy of your school report and, if applicable, your university transcripts.
3) A certified translation of the certificates into German or English.
4) A scanned copy of your passport or identity card. (If applicable, a certificate of change of name; no certification required)
5) A CV in table format. You can find an example here.
6) APS certificate from the German Embassy (ONLY for applications from China, India and Vietnam).
All documents must be uploaded to the uni assist portal.
It is not necessary to send it by post.

It takes approximately 6–8 weeks to process your documents. A fee of €75 is charged for the preliminary assessment. Processing will not begin until the fee has been paid. Please ensure you pay and submit everything in good time.
You will receive a VPD (pre-check documentation) via the uni assist portal, which you will need for your application to Hochschule München.
Hochschule München allows you to submit your VPD application entirely online. You can simply submit your documents online
Important! If you have already successfully completed a state-run preparatory course,(Studienkolleg) please submit your application directly to Hochschule München using your FSP certificate. You donot need a VPD written notice from uni-assist.
What does the written notice from uni-assist (VPD) or the APS say?

All applicants for bachelor's degree programmes with restricted admission must enter their applicant identification number (BID) and applicant authentication number (BAN) onthe Hochschule München’s online portal, in addition to the required documents.
To obtain your personal BID and BAN, please register at hochschulstart.de (to register) and click on the activation link within 72 hours. You must then upload all the required documents or forms to the Hochschule München’s online portal in the correct format and by the deadline.
uni assist will continue to carry out the preliminary assessment of your certificates.

For some degree programmes, a pre-study work placement is required.
The pre-stuy internship should be undertaken on a full-time basis for (approx.) 40 hours per week. If the internship is part-time, the duration of the internship is extended accordingly; for example, 6 weeks becomes 12 weeks.

The teaching language in most bachelor's degree programmes is German; you will need advanced German language skills at B2 level. These German language exams are accepted. Proof of this must be provided by the time of enrolment (end of September or mid-March) at the latest.
For the two English-taught bachelor's degree programmes, you will need English language skills at B2 level.
In addition: German language skills at A2 level (Engineering Physics) by the end of the second semester
German language proficiency at B1 level (IMADE) by the end of the 5th semester.
Entrance examination and portfolio ONLY for the Architecture and Design and Computer Science and Design degree programmes.
For all other degree programmes, places are allocated on the basis of grades without an entrance examination (the number of places is limited). You can find the cut-off marks for the last few semesters here.
For degree programmes with open access, all applicants who have submitted their applications via PRIMUSS in due time and in the correct manner will be admitted.
You will receive the admission letter for
- the winter semester around mid-August;
- the summer semester around the end of January.
You will receive an offer of admission under ‘My Application’ on the Hochschulstart portal; it will not be sent to you by post or email. To enrol provisionally in Primuss, you must first accept the offer of admission via Hochschulstart. You can find further information on ‘Accepting an offer of admission’ here.
Please complete ALL the steps set out in your admission letter yourself and in good time. This is the only way to secure your place at university. If you do not complete the enrolment process yourself and in good time, your place will be allocated to another applicant.
Your student card and details of your account will be avalable through the HM App.
Just received your admission? Would you like to be better prepared for your studies? Hochschule München offers international students the HoMe mentoring programme – ‘feel yourself at home at HM ’. There, you’ll meet students who are already studying on your degree programme at Hochschule München and are in a higher semester. They’ll be on hand to answer any important questions you may have during your first semester.
You’ll meet up regularly and find out everything you need to know about studies at your department straight from other students, as well as getting to know some lovely people!
