People who use trading apps tend to take more risks and trade more frequently than other investors, and on average have less financial knowledge.

Can we trust autonomous vehicles on the roads?

Autonomous vehicles detect road users using cameras, lasers and radar in conjunction with artificial intelligence. This enables them to predict the behaviour of cyclists, for example, and safely navigate complex situations. AI reacts quickly and avoids typical errors such as distraction or fatigue – with the aim of improving road safety. Prof. Dr. Fabian Flohr from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is conducting research in this area.

Gamers have to focus on many different things at once, think strategically and act quickly. Gaming therefore trains the brain to handle information more effectively and process it in a targeted manner. HM Professor Angelika Beranek from the Department of Applied Social Sciences at Hochschule München is conducting research into this topic.

Is ChatGPT sexist?

AI language models such as ChatGPT are a useful tool for writing text. However, they struggle to provide gender-neutral responses to prompts that are phrased in a gender-specific way. AI chatbots tend to exhibit sexist biases. To avoid these biases, humans currently still have to review the results. HM doctoral candidate Stefanie Urchs from the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics at Hochschule München is conducting research on this topic.

Will drones soon be delivering our food?

For drones to be able to deliver food to our homes in the future, wind forecasts are needed. Artificial intelligence can predict changes in wind direction and speed, and use this information to calculate the optimal flight path. This ensures that food delivered by drone reaches its destination safely. HM doctoral candidate Maximilian Dauner is conducting research on this topic within the project group on Low-Impact Inner-City Air Transport Technology (EILT).

What prevents dangerous crowding at events?

In crowd flow analysis, computers simulate how crowds move. Algorithms identify potential bottlenecks and calculate better routes. For example, football fans can receive real-time diversion recommendations via an app. This ensures they reach their destination safely. HM Professor Gerta Köster from the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics is conducting research into this topic.

Why do robots make mistakes?

Robots are not yet able to adapt spontaneously to disruptive factors such as obstacles, fluctuating light conditions or noise. Artificial intelligence enables them to learn from their mistakes and thus cope with new situations.
