Veranstaltung
Design of Experiments (elective module)
This workshop introduces phd students and scientific staff to the principles and application of experimental research designs in business and management research.
01.07.2026 08:30 - 16:30 Uhr
Language
English
Target group
The workshop is primarily aimed at PhD students from the CARRI doctoral centre.
All other PhD students & scientific staff are also very welcome to attend the course. Please note, however, that in the event of capacity constraints, CARRI members will be given priority.
Content
Participants will learn to distinguish true experiments from quasi-experimental and observational research designs, and to align experimental approaches with causal research questions. The workshop covers the selection and design of appropriate experimental structures, including factorial, field, A/B, and mixed designs, as well as the identification and mitigation of threats to internal and external validity. Participants will also learn how to operationalise theoretical constructs into manipulable treatments and develop an experimental design relevant to their own research project. In addition, the workshop introduces basic analytical procedures for pre-test/post-test and full-factorial designs and develops participants’ ability to critically evaluate the quality and rigour of experimental designs.
